Season One

1 To Challenge the Sun (11/6/2004)
Ed and Al's search for the Philosopher's Stone leads them to the city of Lior, an oasis in the middle of a desert where the people are led by a priest who says he performs miracles and can even bring back the dead. When a skeptical Ed learns he's really using alchemy, he is determined to expose him.
2 Body of the Sanctioned (11/13/2004)
With the hope of a young girl hanging in the balance, Ed and Al set out to prove that Father Cornello's depraved "miracles" are hardly acts of God. But would it be better for the people of Lior to live comfortably in a web of lies and blind faith than to know the truth?
3 Mother (11/20/2004)
Childhood for the Elric brothers was a time of war in their native land. While every day families near and far were devastated by news from the battlefront, Ed and Al had their mother to comfort them and encourage their early talent for alchemy. When she died, they were willing to pay any price to bring her back.
4 A Forger's Love (11/27/2004)
Ed and Al leave home and take a train to Central City to become State Alchemists. On their way, they learn that a man named Majhal who discussed human transmutation with their father is living nearby, and decide to pay him a visit. But the town they arrive in has lately been plagued by zombies stealing the souls of young girls.
5 The Man with the Mechanical Arm (12/4/2004)
A last-minute change of plans has Ed and Al aboard a train bound for Central carrying a prestigious general and his family. Later on, a pack of terrorists hijack the train and take the passengers hostage, and Ed and Al must use their alchemy skills to stop them before they start taking lives.
6 The Alchemy Exam (12/11/2004)
Ed and Al arrive at Central to take the State Alchemy Exam and are placed under the tutelage of Shou Tucker, the Sewing Life Alchemist who two years earlier became famous by making an actual talking chimera. Major Hughes arrives and throws a party for Ed's birthday, and when his wife suddenly goes into labor, something unexpected happens.
7 Night of the Chimera's Cry (12/18/2004)
Ed passes the Alchemy Exam with flying colors, and he's only just started learning about everything that comes with being a "dog of the military". Tucker's mandatory State Assessment is coming up and he's looking pretty desperate, while Ed is still curious about the talking chimera he made two years ago.
8 The Philosopher's Stone (1/1/2005)
Still shell-shocked from the events the night before and feeling guilty for not doing anything to prevent them, Edward promptly resigns from the military. But he may have a change of heart when Winry arrives at Central to celebrate his certification and is abducted by a serial killer.
9 Be Thou for the People (1/8/2005)
Edward, now known as the Fullmetal Alchemist, is given his first assignment: to head out to the small frontier town of Youswell to inspect the nearby coal mines. The residents there don't take very kindly to "dogs of the military"--not surprising, considering that the lieutenant in charge has the people underpaid and overtaxed.
10 The Phantom Thief (1/15/2005)
Heading back to report to Mustang about the events in Lior, Ed and Al make a side trip to the coastal city of Aquroya, where a popular thief named Psiren uses alchemy to commit her heists. The Elrics join in the police's manhunt when Ed is curious of her intentions.
11 The Other Brothers Elric, Part 1 (1/22/2005)
Following a hint about a land baron named Mugear who is doing research on the Philosopher's Stone, Ed and Al travel to the city of Xenotime to check it out. When they arrive, they learn that two other young alchemists are working for him who have passed themselves off as Edward and Alphonse Elric.
12 The Other Brothers Elric, Part 2 (1/29/2005)
As Mugear's contingency plan is revealed and the Tringham brothers' ruse is exposed, Ed and Al learn about their father Nash and his involvement with the red water that is sickening the whole town. Mugear is so close to the Stone he can taste it, and he's not about to let anyone else stand in his way.
13 Fullmetal vs. Flame (2/5/2005)
Ed and Al finally arrive at Eastern military headquarters to report their progress to Mustang. Ed suspects that the Flame Alchemist knows more about a lead on the Philosopher's Stone than he lets on, and with his State Assessment coming up, he challenges him to a duel to get the information out of him.

Season Two

14 Destruction's Right Hand (2/12/2005)
Ed and Al continue their search for the Philosopher's Stone by following the only lead they have: one Dr. Marcoh, a researcher who deserted the military during the Ishbal war. It isn't long after they find him when Brigadier General Basque Gran arrives to take a guilt-ridden Marcoh into custody, only to confront a notorious killer who has been targeting State Alchemists.
15 The Ishbal Massacre (2/19/2005)
After losing both Scar and the military, Dr. Marcoh tells Ed and Al of the military atrocities that occurred during the Ishbal war because of research he had done on the Philosopher's Stone.
16 That Which is Lost (2/26/2005)
Dr. Marcoh gives the Elrics a new lead in their search, but before they can follow it they must take a train to their hometown of Risembool to repair Ed's arm and Al's armor, with Major Armstrong escorting them. When Al is mistaken for cargo and dropped off along the way, Ed tracks him down to a disillusioned Ishbal veteran.
17 House of the Waiting Family (3/5/2005)
Ed and Al return to Risembool for the first time since they left to become State Alchemists. As Winry and Pinako make repairs, the brothers rest up and reminisce about old times.
18 Marcoh's Notes (3/12/2005)
Back in Central, Ed plans a visit to the first branch of the National Library to look up Dr. Marcoh's notes. But when he finds out that the building had recently burned down, his only hope of finding "the truth behind truths" lies with a former employee with a phenomenal photographic memory.
19 The Truth Behind Truths (3/19/2005)
Momentarily discouraged after learning the key ingredient in making a Philosopher's Stone, Ed and Al find an experimental laboratory which has been unofficially kept open for top secret research. As they set out to investigate, Scar learns where they are going and heads off in pursuit.
20 Soul of the Guardian (3/26/2005)
Inside Laboratory Five, Ed does battle with the sinister Number 48, a convicted criminal whose soul has been bound to a suit of armor not unlike his own brother. Outside, Al fights Number 66, who presents him with a query: did Alphonse Elric really exist, or was his whole life an alchemically created lie?
21 The Red Glow (4/2/2005)
As Al's battle continues, Scar arrives looking for Ed while Number 66 triggers an explosion which awakens something deep inside the lab. Meanwhile, Number 48 takes Ed deeper within, where a face from his past challenges his morality.
22 Created Human (4/9/2005)
Deep in the heart of Laboratory Five, its true purpose is revealed at last. Ed has all the ingredients he needs to make a Philosopher's Stone--but is he really eager to make one at the cost of so many human lives?
23 Fullmetal Heart* (4/16/2005)
Ed and Al are at the hospital recovering from the incident at Laboratory Five. Winry drops by to repair Ed's arm and gets upset when neither of them will tell her anything of what happened, while Al's existential crisis comes to a head.
24 Bonding Memories (4/23/2005)
Now fully convinced that he never actually existed, Al runs away from the hospital, only to run into Scar and a group of escaped Ishbalan refugees. When one of them, a small boy, is captured by rogue soldiers, Al must fight alongside Scar to save him.
25 Words of Farewell (4/20/2005)
Ed declares that he has given up looking for the Philosopher's Stone as he, Al and Winry take a trip south. Back at headquarters, Major Hughes makes a startling discovery which could bring the entire government to its knees--and someone upstairs decides he knows too much.

*The FUNimation version incorrectly translates the title of episode 23 as "Heart of Steel".
